Lord Buddha the Enlightened One
After the Lord Buddha had been ordained for approximately six years, he came to practise meditation under the Sri Maha Bodhi Tree on the banks of Naerunchara River in the Sub-district of Uruvelasaenanikom. At daybreak on Wednesday of the fifteenth night of the waning moon in the sixth lunar month of the year of the Rooster, forty-five years before the Buddhist Era, he achieved the Enlightenment and became the Lord Buddha. This place is now known as Buddha Kaya, a sub-district of Kaya city in the State of Bihar in India.
On December 15, 1999, the U.N. annouced Visaka Puja Day an internationally important day, reasoning that the Lord Buddha was a Great Man, whose kindness is given to all human beings. His generosity is seen in his offering the chance to people of all religions to study Buddhism to look for truth in life without having to desert their own Eaith. He preached through his great wisdom and did not expect anything in return.
This is the 2nd Visaka Puja day collection of the four prestige stamp sets, which have been plan to issue in four consecutive years starting from 2007. The first collection was the image of the Buddha at the moment of birth.
